June Pictorial

June was a pretty busy month for us. I know, it’s already July 13th and I am still talking about June…so I am a little behind. It’s the story of my life. One of these days I will actually blog when things happen instead of weeks later.

I share all of these photos on Facebook and Instagram, but not everyone follows me there or is on the net daily to see all of these little tidbits of our lives. So this is the first and last time I will apologize for the duplicates for you peeps. I plan to do monthly “pictorials” to share the photos that I had taken for the month and didn’t make an entire blog post about.

Karli is constantly writing me sweet little notes. Sometimes on post-its or I’ll find messages she wrote on her dry erase board. She gave me the most heartfelt note ever.
My daughter is too sweet!

Sometimes Karli writes down words to songs like this one. Funny thing is I did this ALL the time when I was younger. Especially as a teenager, I would constantly look for songs to fit how I was feeling so I would record songs off the radio on my tape player and then play and pause, play and pause – while I wrote down the words. Ahhhh, the days before we had the internet to look these sort of things up.
Found this in Karli's room...she is writing the words down to a song. guess which one?

We got new carpet everywhere except the bedrooms. After 11 years with 4 kids and 4 dogs…it’s was time. The new carpet doesn’t look much different than the old, just a bit darker.
Bye bye old carpet! Hello new carpet ;)

Blake turned 12 years old and he is growing like crazy.
Happy 12th Birthday Blake!

The pups continue to get into everything and drive me crazy. Weekly baths are a must with white pooches.
Always getting into something... Tasty!

Where as Tori and Shaggy just chill and stay out of trouble as always.
Tori wanted to shopping with the girls. She got all dressed up and everything! Shaggy sunbathing

Chase and Karli put on this play for me which I still am not quite sure what was going on. They had me cracking up!
They never fail to entertain me.

There were many extremely hot days most of which were spent indoors prior to all the baseball games that we had to endure in the heat. Other times were spent in the pool where my kids are getting some crazy dark tans.
Who remembers having one of these tires as a kid?

Who’s on first?

As I was cleaning up some emails I found these photos from Chase’s baseball game and I just had to share.

There is my little man, the crazy one in the bottom left corner. The kid certainly has a personality all his own. Then there is Ken up there checking out his own muscles and my dad is to the right of Ken with the huge smile, just having a blast.

Chase’s team almost went to the championship game this year, but unfortunately they lost in the playoffs. There was this big dispute over unfair game play that really just made me roll my eyes and once again think how this small community we live in is so full of politics it’s insane. Long story short, the opposing team had a player that played on a different travel baseball team so he missed 14 out of the 16 season games that were played. Then the kid shows up for the playoff game and scores 4 of the 7 points that the team had as well as being the closing pitcher. It was just a sad situation and the parents on the sidelines were going crazy talking about it. Ken knew it was wrong, but when you have a game to play there isn’t much you can do. They played the game as usual and then Ken filed a dispute with the league afterward. The board voted and the game score stood as is – we lost 6 to 7.

It came down to there really is no official rule that says a kid is disqualified if he misses most of the games. Of course the coach wasn’t going to kick him off the team for never showing up (like he should have) because he was the best player he had. At the end of the day though, Ken said our team did make a few mistakes and we weren’t hitting well most of the game, so it is what it is. It was just sad that Chase’s team did so well- they went 14-2 for the season, and our chance to play in the championship game may have been prevented due to another team basically cheating.

Chase's baseball team, the Mud Hens

Chase and Blake are both finished with baseball for the season, but Andrew still has almost another month to go. There for awhile I was at baseball games every single day of the week. Of course last night I decided to miss Andrew’s game because I wasn’t feeling very well and Andrew got a home run. Figures!!

My Running Playlist

I’m a little obsessed with finding the right music to run too. This list has been tweaked quite a few times. The first 11 songs were the songs I had set for the day of my first 5K race. It is somewhere right around 45 minutes long. The rest of the list are the songs on my “Running” playlist for training days. Or chatting…walking…and listening to music days. I know there are a lot of repetitive artists and most of the music is pretty much the same genre, but it’s what I like and it keeps me motivated.

Hope you are all keeping cool this weekend. It was a toasty 105 degrees earlier when I was at my son’s baseball game. His team came back to our house to cool off in the pool. After 50 hotdogs, 5 2-liters, 2 bags of Doritos, and 2 watermelons later, they all headed off to a second game. I stayed home in the air with the rest of my kiddos. I have to say right now my toes are actually frozen!

Can fat people do the Insanity workout?

This week I started the Insanity workout. Yes, the one where you’ve seen the infomercials on Sunday mornings. The one you watch from the couch, instead of getting off your booty and giving it a try. Okay, I only say that because that is what I was doing. I have always found it interesting and figured I have nothing to lose with trying it out. I hated the thought of spending $120 or more but when I found it on Ebay for nearly half the price, I couldn’t think of any reason to not take the plunge. I thought of all the times I have spent $70 on a nice dinner with Ken. Well this is my body that I have to live with every day. Certainly it is worth every penny, if it works of course. How can it not work? How can this not end positively? How will I not lose weight from this?

I’ve gotten a little bored with just walking/running all the time and I have always needed something to help me build up my endurance. When I am running and have to stop to walk, 70% of the time it is because I am out of breath. The other 30% would be muscle pains, so I debated doing weight training to build up my muscles. I would still love to do some strength (weight) training as well, but for the next 60 days I am committed to doing INSANITY!!!

Here is a intro video to my new weight loss video series – “Can Fat People do the Insanity workout?”

My first 5K race results

Hi guys, I finally posted a video about the 5K I did earlier this month. I wish I could say it was short and sweet, but as always I ramble on and on. Bless you if you can actually make it through til the end :) I look forward to sharing my plans for the next couple months…time to amp up the workouts!! Sorry for the pinkish color of the video, I tried using a different camera and have learned it is NOT better than using my Flip.

Cheddar Bay Biscuits

You know those amazing biscuits from Red Lobster? Or Ruby Tuesday? I found a recipe on Big Oven the other day and thought I would try them out. They were delicious!! They tasted just like the ones at Red Lobster. I thought I would share the recipe. Just don’t blame me when you eat them all!

I made my own cheddar biscuits just like those from Red Lobster or Ruby Tuesday's...and they were quite yummy!

Cheddar Bay Biscuits

Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups Bisquick baking mix
1 cup Cheddar cheese; finely grated
3/4 cup Whole milk
2 tablespoons Butter
1/8 teaspoon Garlic powder
1/4 cup Butter
1/2 teaspoon Garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon Dried parsley flakes
1 dash Salt

Directions:
1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.

2. Combine Bisquick with cheddar cheese, milk, 2 tablespoons of butter that has been melted in the microwave, and 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder in a medium bowl. Mix until well-combined.

3. Drop approximately 1/4-cup portions of the dough onto an ungreased cookie sheet.

4. Combine 1/4 cup butter with 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, parsley flakes and salt. Brush this mixture over the tops of each unbaked biscuit.

5. Bake for 14 to 16 minutes or until the tops of the biscuits begin to turn light brown. Serve warm.

Buckeye cable

For those who live near us and have Buckeye cable, you have to call and get the new modem/DVR combo. Not only does it upgrade your DVR with a larger hard drive, it also allows you to record up to 6 programs at a time. Amazing! AND…you can watch the programs from any device. If you are watching a program in your family room and then want to head to bed to finish watching it, it will pick up right where you left off. You can set, delete, watch recordings from any of your boxes as well. The DVR menu is taking some getting used to, but it’s easy enough to figure out.

New cable dvr/modem

The modem is great as well because you no longer need to use a router for wireless connection. It has wireless capabilities and you are able to change the settings for xbox connection (open the appropriate ports and such). There is a $25 fee for the setup and they come out to your house and connect everything for you. The cost of the modem/DVR box is not any more per month, in fact we would have saved a few bucks each month if we wouldn’t have ordered an extra box when we got the new equipment.

I believe Buckeye did some commercials advertising the new box, but I never seen them since I tend to DVR everything and never watch commercials. It wasn’t until I got online to look up their phone number to order a new DVR box because ours kept skipping (like dropping off sound for a second here and there) that I seen that the new boxes were available. No more sound skipping for us!

(This is not a paid advertisement, however if Buckeye would like to give me a discount on my cable bill for saying nice things about their products, that would be super!)

Dance Recital

Karli did such a great job at her dance recital. I have to upload the videos yet, but when I do I will be sure to share. For now, here are the photos. She looked so pretty in her costumes! Her tap routine, the outfit with the hat, was a small group of only 4 girls and they did such an awesome job. Her hip hop number was the white outfit and had so many girls of different ages and they did really well, except the routine was too short! Karli loves hip hop so much! The turquoise outfit was for jazz and she was the youngest and much smaller than all the other girls. A couple of the girls were Andrew’s age! She struggled at times during practice to keep up with the older girls, but overall I was so proud of her. She did well at the recital and she learned so much in the class. We can’t wait until next year!
