Planning a summer of family fun

Cedar Point

This summer I am bound and determined to make sure we spend lots of time together as a family. I know we spend more time together than many families since we work from home, but I’m thinking quality time…not quantity. I have often felt guilty come September when the kids are going back to school and I reflect on the summer and I realize that we didn’t quite do enough. Sure there are all the baseball games and days spent soaking up the sun in the pool. But there is so much more we could be enjoying together. Even if it is something as simple as taking our bikes to Wildwood, enjoying a picnic, or visiting the art museum. I haven’t been to the art museum in probably 10 years!

I’ve been printing monthly calendars from Hello Cuteness the past couple of years to keep track of all of our kids games, practices, and appointments any of us have. (The calendars used to be offered for free, unfortunately it looks like she is charging for them now. This summer I am making it my goal to add two or more activities a week for us to enjoy as a family. These first two weeks of summer break have been a bit of a challenge because the boys have baseball games 4 – 5 nights a week and Karli just wrapped up her dance season. As soon as June is over and the baseball season ends we should have an easier time scheduling lots of family time together.

First adventure for the summer was taking the kids to Cedar Point since my niece Emma was in town and she loves to ride all the roller coasters. We went on a day that was supposed to thunder storm which worked out perfectly because hardly anyone was there. We got on all the rides within 15 minutes – including the new Gatekeeper. It only sprinkled twice for about 20 minutes in which the roller coasters did close down for a few minutes. It was the best trip I’ve ever experienced at Cedar Point though in regards to it not being too humid or crowded.

Funny thing I ended up losing my voice from screaming on a few of the roller coasters. The older I get the more scared I seem to get!

Andrew, Chase and Emma all rode the Top Thrill Dragster. I rode it a few years ago and have no desire to ride it again, I’m too chicken. They were the real ride warriors!

Riding the Magnum!
Perfect day for Cedar Point. Got right on all the rides! Only 15 minutes for Gatekeeper!

Karli and Blake were too scared to get on most of the roller coasters. We did drag everyone on the Maverick though including Uncle Don who was about to crap his pants. He does not like roller coasters and I tried to tell him that the Maverick was a crazy one, but he thought it looked mild. His face was pretty hilarious afterwards. Blake just said “I’m done” after that one. :-)

The craziest part of the day was when we were getting ready to go home and the kids asked to play some games. Karli and Emma seen these cute cows that they wanted to try to win. Of course it was the game with the 3 cups that you had to knock down with one ball. Emma went first, $5 for 3 tries. When she knocked all 3 cups down on the third try we were all screaming with excitement. Ken and I instantly thought…Great we are going to spend a ton of money trying to win one for Karli now. Sure enough Karli takes her turn and she knocked down all 3 cups on her third try as well. We were cheering so loud at this point that everyone around us was starring. Then Chase wanted to win a Pokémon character by tossing a ball onto 100 cup tops. There were only 3 red ones and on his second toss he landed the ball on a red one. I mean what are the chances?! It was crazy! I mean usually you spend a huge amount of money and walk away with nothing and these kids all won the top prizes within minutes and only $15 spent. It was a blast trying to fit all those prizes into the car for the ride home.

Chase, Karli and Emma all won a prize on their first try! Only $15 spent...now that's some luck.

Wieners!

It was the perfect day…other than me forgetting my video camera at home. Ugh!

Dance recital photos

I had already shared the video from Karli’s dance recital, but I forgot to share some photos that I took as well.

Her Tap costume, which looked cute on her since she is such a bean pole.

May Pictorial

Better late than never that I share my Instagram/Facebook photos from May. I thought having the school year come to an end would slow things up, but instead I have been even more busy these past couple of weeks. Before I forget…here are some things that went on in May.

We opened the pool the first week of May even though the weather this year is pretty mild compared to last year. Of course Chase and Karli hung out in the hot tub because the pool was too cold.
Opened the swimming pool today but kids are swimming in the hot tub cuz the pool is too cold!

Tori chillin’ in the sunlight.
Wish I had time to sunbathe!

IronMan 3…AMAZING!!
Had the theatre to ourselves. #ironman3

Andrew went to Prom…all of the photos here.

For Mother’s Day the kids spoiled me with a Beatbox Portable so I can jam music while we are swimming or working out. It runs off Bluetooth with my iPhone. They also got me a FitBit One which tracks your steps, distance, calories burned, and sleep activity.
Happy Mothers Day to me!

Daisy & Pippa got their traditional summer buzz cuts.
Look who got Spring haircuts today ;)

Unfortunately the month ended on a sad note. My grandmother passed away. My aunt made her family tree and it was very nice to see all the family that my grandmother created.
My grandmother that recently passed was an only child and look at the fabulous family she created!!

Karli’s Dance Recital

Karli has been working so hard at her gymnastics skills. We were so excited when her dance teacher decided she could do a tumbling pass the beginning of the jazz routine! This upcoming dance year Karli wants to try out for competition dance, but I’m still a little torn. I mean I want her to do competition dance and have the experience, but in 3 years when she enters into 7th grade she really wants to cheer for the junior high and try out for their competitive cheer team. At that point you can’t really do both – dance and cheer. Honestly though it’s hard to know when you are almost 9 years old what you might want to do throughout junior high and high school. So we are just going to take it one year at a time and see what happens. Hopefully at some point she will be a lot better at one or the other and we will know that it is what she is meant to do.

Spring Fever Vox Box

I received my first Vox Box from Influenster. I consider it an honor to be chosen because I have watched other Vox Box videos and some women have said it took them like two years to finally receive one after applying and I got one on my first try! I am thinking that maybe my age had something to do with it – I bet there aren’t nearly as many 40 year olds applying to receive these boxes than 20-somethings. Finally being old pays off!

Influenster is a “free -to-join community of invited trendsetters who live to give opinions of products and experiences. Influenster creates links between brands and members to reward participation and influence future products”. Feel free to check out my Influenster profile page here. They have all sorts of campaigns you can be part of where you can receive products to try out in exchange for your opinions and most importantly- sharing those opinions via social media.

This Vox Box included some great items – check back in a week or so to see my thoughts on how these products worked out for me!

Andrew’s Prom

May has been a tough month, but I am ready to get back into the swing of things. I’m sitting here watching the Bachelorette, hopefully with my sweet Grandmother, who recently passed, watching with me from up in heaven. This was one of her favorite shows. I will miss her calling me asking me if I know ahead of time who is chosen at the end. :(

Even though a few weeks have passed I wanted to share Andrew’s Prom photos. He looked so handsome in a tuxedo and I loved his date’s dress. They had a great night, but I will admit that it was the first dance he went to that I was anxiously awaiting for him to get home. Something about prom and teens out driving around is nerve wracking to say the least. Not to mention he borrowed his grandfather’s truck for the night.

It’s hard to believe that Andrew will officially be a high school Senior in less than 2 weeks. I am so proud of how hard he has worked this year and I can’t wait for him to have a blast his senior year. And then off to college…wow, how time flies!

Office Tour – Prior to Remodeling

I love when people make tour videos of rooms in their homes. I feel like it allows you to get a peek inside their lives and well honestly – I’m just nosey like that! If you are nosey too…take a look at my video of my office. We plan to do some remodeling later this year – custom desks, cabinets, and shelves. But for now this is where I slave away every day!!
