72 of 365 – Hunted

Book 5 of The House of Night series came out earlier this week. I had reserved the book at my library about a month ago and amazingly I was the first person to get this particular copy! The series is written by P.C. Cast and her daughter Kristin Cast. Book 5 is called Hunted and is off to a great start. The series is actually a young adult series about vampire high school, where everything and anything goes wrong. The main character Zoey, is a vampire fledgling (pre-vampire), but she is special because she was picked by the Vampire Godess to eventually take her place. She has been given special powers, different markings on her body than anyone else, and she has an interesting circle of friends. The novels include the typical boyfriend troubles and drama that all teens go through. The series is not as good as the Twilight series, but it is a must read for anyone who loves teen love-vampire stories! (I am still reading Twilight for a second time, its just on hold for now.)

71 of 365 – Interior Decorator

This is what I seen when I went to check on my daughter before going to bed just now. I am thinking she has some great interior decorating skills. Either that or maybe she is trying to tell me she wants a canopy bed? It’s been on our list of things to do – buy Karli a twin bed and Andrew needs a full size bed. I was going to buy Karli a daybed…maybe I need to rethink that one.

Try this American Dog Show contestants or anyone else who thinks their dogs are better trained than mine. My dogs may not know how to sit, stand, or roll over on command, but they sure can stand in a straight line when I yell "Attention!…well that and hold up a piece of steak.

69 of 365 – Changes

Ken decided my office should now be located in the basement so I am now working here at this lovely table. It’s not so bad, but working downstairs is sure different. There is no natural light down there and on sunny days when I come upstairs to let the dogs out or whatever the sun is blinding. Sort of vampire-ish huh? Some business stuff that happened last week sort of led to this discussion about how working together (literally in the same room) could make us more accountable for what we are doing during the day.

A trip to the pet store to get some bones. They have these cute mini bones that are perfect for rewarding the dogs. What do I reward the dogs for you ask? They don’t know how to do any tricks at all, so it certainly isn’t for that. Two of my dogs, Shaggy the Maltipoo and Tori the Yorkie, sometimes have a tiny listening problem that often interferes with them coming back into the house when I call their names. One shake of their container of bones and they come a runnin!

I’m trying to get the kids to bed at 9pm like usual, but of course their bodies are telling them that it is only 8pm. They are all riled up and I am trying to get them to chill out and stay up in their bedrooms. Tonight is the very last episode of The L Word. Gotta find out who killed Jenny! I am sad that this is the last season…. the last show.

Couple hours later…Update:
The final episode had some good parts, but the ending was very disappointing. I see there that is going to be a TV Spinoff show with Alice as the lead actress, called The Farm. Interesting…

65 of 365 – Some days are better than others

65 of 365

The kids had a half day of school today due to the end of the trimester so I scheduled the 3 younger ones dentist appointments. Sadly, Karli has never been to the dentist and she is almost 5. Blake and Chase haven’t been in almost 2 years. Going to the dentist has always been one of those things that gets pushed on the back burner due to not having dental insurance. Andrew always goes faithfully because he is on his father’s insurance and they have dental coverage. I know, it’s no excuse, especially because I spend money on clothes and sports and whatever else for the kids without a second of thought.

Guess what? The kids received rave reviews at the dentist. So HA! The dentist told the kids they are doing a great job at brushing their teeth and I was all like, Ahem- you mean mom does a great job brushing their teeth?! I always brush their teeth in the morning and then I watch them brush their own teeth at night. Mostly because in the morning we are rushed and we don’t have time to waste while they play around with toothpaste and brushes. Andrew of course brushes his own teeth in case you were wondering. I am just talking about the younger 3 kids.

Another thing is we don’t really let the kids drink pop or allow them to eat much candy. They have pop, or soda as some of you call it, once in awhile when we go out to eat, but other than that they drink milk at dinner and juice or koolaid other times. Koolaid isn’t the greatest either because of the sugar, but they don’t really have that much koolaid either. Outside of meals whenever they are thirsty they are told to drink water. Nice that I can get my kids to develop these great habits where as I am horrible at the same things.

After the dentist we went to a couple of stores to look for new tennis shoes for Karli. Hers were looking pretty shabby and getting a little tight. My cell phone was ringing like crazy because I had dropped Andrew off at the mall with his friend before the dentist appointment and they decided they wanted to come home. Here they told me that they were planning on staying a few hours, but Andrew bought a video game and wanted to come home to play it. He was driving me nuts! Other than that I had one of those moments where you sit back and sigh and think…wow, this is how I imagined my life would be someday… many many years ago.

I don’t know what it was specifically. Maybe it was the kids behaving so well at the dentist. They were so cute and nice with the staff it made me proud that they were my kids. Maybe it was walking through the stores and not having the kids ask if they could buy this or that and me having to say no a couple dozen times. Maybe it was the sunshine and the 65 degree weather that we haven’t seen in forever. Whatever it was, it felt great and I feel so lucky to have the life that I have.
