Karli’s First Sleepover

My niece Emma is in town for a week. Her dad has to work Tuesday and Wednesday so we are babysitting her while he is at work. Last night she stayed the night so he doesn’t have to get her up so early in the morning. Karli was so excited to have her stay the night. She always asks if she can have friends stay the night since the boys have friends over. Actually Chase hasn’t invited anyone yet, but Blake and Andrew have friends overnight all the time. They looked so sweet laying in Karli’s bed. I mean, her mattress on the floor because I have yet to find a bed that I like.

Sleeping cousins

Karli and Emma play together so well. They were playing in the backyard and as they were walking around they were holding hands. It was adorable. The only bad thing about Emma coming over is the girls totally trash Karli’s bedroom every single time!

Burn baby burn

I thought I was in pain after a day of yard work, until Andrew came home from baseball practice and showed me his arm. He has been playing catcher and this is from diving for a ball. He did catch the ball and threw it fast enough to get the guy out at first. I said- Dude- it’s practice! Ouch!

I am giving the idea of a garden second thoughts. I worked my butt off just on the front yard today and I tried to get the boys to help and all the moaning and groaning – I tell ya, it just isn’t worth it. The fact that I don’t even eat garden vegetables ( I like the canned or frozen type ), I think it will be a lot of hard work for nothing. There is still lots to do in the yard, ugh.

Quad Beds

The things Karli comes up with!

Sadly, she did not get selected for all day Kindergarten. There were only 10 open spots for girls and 36 girls trying to get all day. Her name was picked 33! Don’t think they will get that far down the waiting list unfortunately.

Gradulations Day

My baby girl graduated from Preschool. I am glad it is over with. I did not grow attached to this preschool (such as the teachers) like I did the boys. This particular preschool came highly recommended by several friends and it was closer so I thought I would give it a shot. I learned sometimes you should just stick with what works. Oh well, it is done and over and all I can say is sayonara!

Even though the year is over the school called today to invite us to a park tomorrow so the kids can see their butterflies that emerged from their cocoons over the weekend. They will also be releasing the butterflies. If it wasn’t for Karli hearing the phone message I might have just skipped out on it. Her face lit up when she heard that the cocoons hatched. Darn it! I’m just so over the whole thing. Maybe it’s just the resentment I feel for her not learning anything. Or possibly it is because the only time the teachers ever gave me any feedback was when they were “concerned” with how shy she is and how she doesn’t like to participate when they sing and dance. As far as I am concerned, I am not concerned AT ALL considering I was the same way at her age and I grew out of it.

We find out Wednesday if Karli gets picked for all day Kindergarten for next year. It would be so much better for her to be in school all day rather than just mornings. I feel bad for her that there are times where she is playing several hours by herself because I am busy working. I would rather she be at school and learn and enjoy time with friends. Chase is in all day this year and Karli would get his teacher if she gets picked. I would be very pleased about that. Fingers crossed big time!!

I took Karli to pick out a present for her “Gradulations” – this is what she kept calling her graduation, it was so cute. She picked out one of those My Meebas that apparently you have to play for hours and hours before the toy pops up. She wants the toy to pop up NOW! I tried to play it to help her, but the game is so boring!

Karli is keeping busy by playing with the toys at our garage sale. This is the second year in a row that it has rained on the first day. Let’s hope tomorrow is a better day!

Clearing out the playroom

This week I have been busy trying to get together garage sale stuff for this weekend. We are having a sale at my mom’s house. I don’t have a whole lot to get rid of, but enough to make it worth while.

Every year I seem to find more and more toys to clear out of the playroom in the basement. The kids rarely play with anything anymore except for board games every once in awhile, puzzles, and Legos. I still hung onto all their Matchbox cars, Rescue Heroes and all their Fisher Price Little People sets even though no one plays with them. We have so many of them (Little People sets), so I think I am going to hang onto them for our grandkids.

Believe it or not we are actually hanging onto quite a bit for our future grandkids. Is that strange? The crib that all 4 kids used is still in excellent condition and that is packed away in our attic. We will keep it so our kids have a crib at our house for when we babysit or they are visiting. I also kept my wooden high chair and a rocking horse from Pottery Barn. We have also saved several talking dolls, like the Sleep and Snore Elmo and the very first talking Barney. Maybe they will be worth money some day? Anyways, it is sort of bittersweet, slowly clearing out our playroom. The younger kids seemed to grow out of toys so much quicker since they tend the play with the same things as the older kids. Karli has all of her girly toys like her play kitchen, baby dolls, and Pet Shop toys all in her bedroom. She has the largest bedroom and can keep her stuff separate.

I am also parting with my double stroller since we don’t use that anymore. I still have Karli’s princess toddler bed to sell too. Back when we first decided to part with it I changed my mind because I couldn’t decide what kind of bed to get her. I still can’t decide, but she has outgrown it and it is time to let it go. She has been sleeping on a twin mattress that is laying on her floor for a couple of weeks now and she thinks it is the coolest thing. We went furniture shopping once and had no luck. She is excited about going out shopping for her new bed. Along with Andrew who is 5’6″ and still sleeping in a twin bed. I hate to get him a full size bed because his room is only 11 x 12, but he doesn’t care. I wish we could move into a house with bigger bedrooms, but that is a whole nother post!
