Swingers

Chase and Karli FINALLY learned how to swing on their own this summer. I don’t know why they couldn’t get the hang of it. Karli started doing it on her own a couple weeks ahead of Chase. She kept teasing him so he figured it out pretty fast after that.

Football

Today I went to Andrew’s football meeting. I am super excited about Andrew’s football this year. This is the first year that there will not be any dad’s coaching. It’s like a fresh start for him. There will be a lot of 8th graders on the team that played for the junior high in 7th grade so he will have to prove himself a little bit. He stayed back with a bunch of his buddies and played pop warner football. I am excited to see what position he will play. I am just so happy that he decided to stick with football!

Blake and his football…ugh! This is week two of practice for him and today Ken called me from practice and told me to make a doctor appointment for Blake. He keeps losing his breath really bad when running laps at practice. Today he actually started having like a panic attack when he couldn’t breath after the first lap of running. I don’t know if he has asthma or what. I haven’t been there to see it, but for Ken to say that Blake needs to go see the doctor, I know it is serious. Let’s hope it is nothing and Blake is just a little out of shape or something.

5 years old going on 15

Karli and I were cuddling on the couch watching the latest episode of Jon and Kate Plus 8 and she was doing her usual talking a mile a minute. On the show, Kate took the 3 boys to visit the USS North Carolina battleship. Karli was very interested in the boat and was asking tons of questions. She wanted to know why there were beds on the boat, why the guns were so big, and how could they cook food on a boat. It was really cute. She told me that she didn’t think that army guys should be fighting anymore because if they all die then we all will die. I assured her that would not happen. That is the last thing she needs to be worrying about. She is a bit of a worry wart like her momma. At one point she told Chase to come see the huge boat that the soldiers would fight on when they were protecting us from big battles. I am always impressed at how quickly and easily she understands things. But I often wonder if I tell her too much? There should be some sort of manual that parents can go to that tells us how old our kids should be when discussing certain topics.

Myrtle Beach & Hershey Pennsylvania Vacation

This is our second year in a row vacationing in Myrtle Beach. (first time post here.) This time we were primarily there for Andrew’s travel baseball team who was participating in a tournament at the Cal Ripken facility. Some of the families stayed in the same hotel, but several stayed in other places. Since we had just been to Myrtle Beach the year before the kids were begging to stay at the Dunes Village resort because every time we drove by it they seen all the cool indoor waterslides.

The resort was not nearly as nice as Island Vista that we stayed at last year, but it was a very fun hotel for the kids. They had a lazy river outdoors, waterslides indoors, and several pools so there was always a place to find lounge chairs to relax and hang out. On the downside the hotel isn’t kept as clean as it could be, sand everywhere, carpets need replaced, furniture not in the best shape. These are all things that the kids certainly don’t notice so we still had a fantastic time.

We did go to Hershey, Pennsylvania on the way to MB, which ended up being way out of the way, which we knew, but didn’t care. We had time to kill. We ended up not arriving in MB until 2am. While in Hershey we visited Chocolate World the day we arrived. It was pretty neat, the kids thought it was cool. Believe it or not it was free admission and the chocolate tour ride was free. We rode it twice! Not that we didn’t spend plenty of money on t-shirts and stuff. We bought some yummy chocolate too. They had these new chocolate meltaways, they are really soft kisses.

The next morning we spent about 6 hours at Dutch Wonderland. It is an amusement park for kids in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. There were some rides that Andrew enjoyed, but for the most part it was for the younger kids. We rode the Sky Ride, which are those cable cars, kind of like ski lifts. They go really slow and I hate them so much!

Like I said, we chilled a lot at the hotel, went to Magiquest (interactive game) 3 times, and ate at various restaurants. The vacation still cost us a lot of money. Don’t ever go to MB if you are trying to find a cheap vacation. Andrew had some great memories and he actually ended with a bang. He hit a triple and the whole team was cheering for him. I was so happy he ended on a positive note.

On the way home we ended up driving straight through and getting home at 4am. I drove from like midnight on. I just wanted to get home to my babies (dogs) and my own bed.

Overall we had a great trip and the weather was perfect the entire time!

Karli’s 5th birthday party

I made the mistake of googling “princess cake” with Karli and Emma. We kept seeing photos of these Barbie cakes, over and over again. I thought, it can’t be that hard, right? So I found this video on YouTube that gave the best set of directions and went at it. I about shocked myself when it actually turned out. None of the cakes burned and in fact it was super yummy. I used cherry chip cake and vanilla whipped frosting with red food coloring. Then I used these little Barbie sprinkles that I found at Kroger for the beads. I used one of Karli’s barbies and wrapped it in plastic before putting it in the cake and covering it in frosting. Karli could not stop smiling at the cake and my niece loved it so much I am afraid she is going to ask me to make one for her birthday next year.

Just call me Betty Crocker, Jr.

Not that I will ever do this again

Karli got lots of fun stuff for her birthday. We bought her the Tag reading system because I thought it would be good for her to use while I am working in the afternoons and she is home because SHE DIDN’T GET ALL DAY KINDERGARTEN!! Yes, I am still bitter. We got her a DS game and some other little stuff she didn’t need. From her relatives she got some craft supplies, some clothes for school, Polly Pockets, dress up clothes, and Parcheesi. I loved that game growing up!

5 years old!

Her favorite present was from her Great Grandma who bought her the specific Webkinz that she requested. She wanted the white bunny with pink ears and black eyes. My poor grandma drove all over town looking for the Webkinz and it was no where to be found. Finally someone told her that it was retired so I ended up buying it on Ebay for her. My grandma made a pink scarf for the bunny and made one for Karli to match.

Yes they can!

It was time for Andrew to move from a twin bed to a full size bed. He picked out a simple platform bed which we found super cheap from Walmart.com.
