Inside my closet

Update October 2014 – Karli posted a new closet tour – Video Link – http://youtu.be/f9cAFw5gg34

I am sure you’ve been just dying to know what the inside of my bedroom closet looks like right? Go ahead, roll your eyes, but you know you are going to watch the video *just to see* what it might look like. Not that you care or anything because why would anyone care to see what the inside of my closet looks like? Funny thing is I love watching these videos. Whether it be for organizational ideas or just simply because I am nosey and curious what other’s closets look like I guess! Okay, mostly just because I am nosey.

Karli wanted me to do her closet too, so you get two for the price of one. Which is free! lol

* All of these shelves were purchased from Home Depot and installed by my hubby. They are pretty easy to cut and install yourself.

Ham & Bean Soup

Ham and Bean Soup

I finally decided to upgrade our crockpot from a 4 quart to an 8 quart and you can bet that I wanted to use it right away. Ken had bought a small ham the other day and I was going to make scalloped potatoes and ham, but decided to try making ham and bean soup instead. There are so many versions and recipes out there that I just picked up a few cans of navy beans and added in whatever else I had in the house. I have to admit I wasn’t sure if I would like it, but it was so delicious.

Making ham and bean soup

Next time I make it I think I will try adding some small chunks of potato too. I love potatoes cooked in the crockpot.

Can’t you just smell that deliciousness? Best part of cooking in the crock pot in my opinion is how wonderful my house smells all day.

Upside Down Braid Bun

Hello, welcome to our first hair tutorial for the Upside Down Braid. I love trying out different styles with Karli and we thought it would be fun to share one of our favorites with you. Andrew needs to learn to hold the camera more still! Sorry about that :) Be sure to watch the very end where we share some Bloopers!

books

On my bookshelf

onmybookshelf

I haven’t been reading as much as I would like to here lately, so my “To Read” list is rapidly growing. I thought I would share with you all the books that I would like to read this year. I only read 12 books last year and all of that reading was in spurts. Such as reading the Fifty Shades of Grey Trilogy in like a week and reading 4 books while I was on vacation in November. My favorites were (besides the Fifty Shades because yes, I enjoyed them) were the first two books of the Crossfire series – Bared to You and Reflected in You. They are similar to Fifty Shades but even better in my opinion. The main female character in that series would be a perfect match for the main male character in Fifty Shades actually. I also really liked the first two books in the Delirium series, Delirium and Pandemonium (Delirium). They are a young adult series, quick reads, and pretty intriguing story where the government “cures” people from feeling love. The third book in the series comes out in March and is on my “bookshelf” of course!

In no particular order… my TO READ list consists of:

Drinking and Tweeting: And Other Brandi Blunders – Brandi Glanville / She is famous for losing her husband to Leann Rimes and being one of the catty moms on the Real Housewives and I love her. Can’t wait to read this one for some good trashy gossip. {Biography}

Gone Girl – Gillian Flynn / I’m on a list of about 100 hundred other people waiting for this book at my library. I’ll probably break down and purchase it for my iPad. Seems like this one is on everyone’s Must Read list.

The Book Thief – Markus Zusak / This book has been popping up in people’s favorites list for years. Someday I will get around to seeing what the hype is all about.

Cutting for Stone – Abraham Verghese / Another favorite that I added just because I don’t want to feel left out.

Entwined with You (A Crossfire Novel) – Sylvia Day / Book 3 of the Crossfire Series and it’s not going to be out until June now. First it was going to be March and then May and now June. WOW, it better be good!

Requiem – Lauren Oliver / Book 3 of the Delirium Series – out on March 5th. Can’t wait! I may just buy this one since I have the first two books in my possession and sell them off to someone. Let me know if you are interested.

Divergent & Insurgent – Veronica Roth / I bought the first two books of this series but haven’t gotten around to reading them yet. It’s another young adult series about a dystopian world.

The Night Circus – Erin Morgenstern / I’ve had this one on my to read list forever. I’ve come real close to buying it a few times, but something else has always looked better.

The Language of Flowers – Vanessa Diffenbaugh / Another pretty popular book that I have been meaning to read for awhile now.

So what is on your To Read list for this year? Anything that I should add to my list?

Are you on Goodreads? Add me as a friend if so!

20 Questions with my kids

This video ended up being a little bit longer than I would have liked, but it’s all about creating memories with my kids, right? We had fun, hope you get a few giggles out of it as well. And note to self- no more videos over 15 minutes because it took 6 hours to upload! I had uploaded it on Monday and went to bed and when I woke up the upload had failed. Then I had to start over Tuesday morning and it too almost my entire work day. Also, if you are watching our videos on your computer whether here at our website or on YouTube- be sure to click on the little “gear” logo in the right hand corner and watch them in HD. The quality is so much better.

Ultimate Workout Playlist

The first thing I had to do when we got our home gym was create a new playlist of music for working out. On a typical day I will get on the treadmill and walk for about 10 – 15 minutes to warm up my muscles so my playlist begins with a few slower songs that I am just loving right now. Then I move on to working out on our trainer (Inspire FT1) doing my core and arms one day and then the next day would be core and legs for about 40 minutes to an hour. I have begun to work in short bursts of running on the treadmill or a couple of intense minutes on the elliptical in between weight training. I’ve read this type of working out, some what like circuit training, is a real effective way to lose fat. We will see I guess!

Here are my favorite songs to workout to right now:

Non-romantic Valentine’s gift

Ken and I worked out on our home gym for the first time today and I loved it! Ken thinks we overdid it, but I can’t help it…when I work out I want to feel it burn. I guess you could say the Inspire FT1 was our Valentine’s Day gift to one another. We always seem to do that – whenever we make big purchases around holidays or birthdays we’ll always say that it’s for that special day. Almost like it’s our secret way of justifying the purchase in the first place. I mean really, how romantic- a home gym for Valentine’s Day? Nothing like saying “No chocolate for you this Valentine’s Day, you need to work out instead!” Seriously though, no disappointment here – I love it!

Inspire FT1

Thanks to everyone who tried to help us out by liking our Facebook page earlier this week. We were hoping to partner with Nutrisystem where we would receive their food plan in exchange for writing blog posts and making videos about our experience with their products. We didn’t get selected though based on my low “social media” stats – which is referring to our Facebook fan page and Twitter. I knew this was going to be an issue and it’s okay. My blog isn’t a place of advertising, giveaways, or sponsored reviews – all those cool things that draw in subscribers and followers by the thousands. What’s disappointing is I really believe in the product and think it would help Ken and I reach our weight loss goals, where as many of the bloggers that they are working with have never once written about weight loss or fitness prior to them being sponsored by Nutrisystem. I understand though that they have parameters that they need to go by and we are not at that level. They didn’t seem to care that my YouTube channel is doing well and growing by the day either, which is unfortunate because Nutrisystem doesn’t have a very big presence on YouTube yet. I did give some thought to the whole situation because they did say I can reapply later when my stats are higher. What I’ve realized from the whole thing is that I blog for fun because I like writing and sharing things with everyone whether real life friends or virtual friends and while I could put some effort into making my blog just like the thousands of others, it’s just not who I am. I don’t want my blog to be work, I have a job thank you! Anyways, this just confirms my decision to focus on my YouTube channel because that is what I enjoy the most and just see where that takes us.

Daily Nuggets

–> A neighbor, a friend of Chase’s, just came over and said how he seen my videos on YouTube – where I was talking about losing weight. Too funny!

–> My poor baby Tori…she lets Karli do just about anything to her. She loves the attention!

Baby Tori

–> I meant to post a video yesterday but with Wednesday being Valentine’s Day I didn’t film anything. I did post two videos earlier this week though. A yummy Cinnamon cheesecake recipe and our rendition of the Harlem Shake – Michigan Family Style if you haven’t seen those yet. Our Harlem Shake video actually made it on The Today Show – check out that video here.

Happy Weekend everyone!
