Back to normal… not even close

Just when I thought life would get back to our typical summer routine, everything goes and gets busy again. Andrew and Blake both start football today. This will be Blake’s first year playing tackle football. He is pretty pumped. Andrew decided to play again after taking a year off. Ken is coaching Blake’s team this year. Soon I will be spending about 5 hours at the football field on Sunday game days. I would really like to find a babysitter for Chase and Karli otherwise I will probably go nuts. Andrew will also being playing fall baseball, which is just games on Saturdays. Chase will play flag football, but that doesn’t start until next month. Karli still doesn’t want to take dance class. Hopefully this year of preschool will help her be a little less shy. What else starts soon? Religion classes for Blake on Mondays and Chase and Karli will go to the preschool classes during mass on Sundays again. Crap, now I just thought about how we are going to make that happen during football season?? Ugh! Anyways, the amount of paperwork for all these activities, the schools, and preschool is insane!

Andrew received his junior high class schedule the other day. Of course he got the difficult teacher that I mentioned a long time ago. I ended up not going into the school and requesting any certain teachers for Andrew, so it was bound to happen. I have talked to more people, including some kids that have had the teacher recently and honestly I am not too worried. Apparently one of the biggest beefs people have with this teacher is every single night she makes you write an outline on whatever you learned about that day. She also has pop quizzes like crazy, but if you do your outline every night that shouldn’t be a problem. I guess it is the pop quizzes that are hard and end up screwing up their grades royally. The neighbor girl said that her friend did get an A in the class, so it isn’t impossible. You just have to work really hard. Andrew is smart, I think it will be good for him. It’s about time he gets challenged by a teacher! His schedule is awesome though, well at least I think so. He has Periods 1 – 4 of Math, English, History, Science. Then he goes to lunch and Homeroom. Then Health/Gym rotation for 6th Period and the 7th period is the exploratory rotation of computers, foreign languages, etc. I told him I think it is great that he will get all of his core classes done in the morning and then the rest of the day will be easy. He is a little nervous about entering junior high. I can remember those days. Barely.

Happy Birthday Karli!

My baby girl is 4 years old today. Even though she already got a Nintendo DS and some games from us before we left for vacation, we treated her to a special day. I took her to Libby Lu for a makeover and some jewelry. They don’t have one near us so as soon as I passed one the other day I was excited to bring her back on her birthday. She acted pretty shy about the whole thing and I admit I did have to bribe her a little. I told her that she couldn’t get the little puppy in the purse if she didn’t let them do her hair and makeup. She doesn’t even like when I do her hair, so I rarely fix it for her. She did pick out her own hair style and colors at least. Afterwards I told Ken that she sure hasn’t learned how to take advantage of me wanting to spend money on her. I wanted to buy her more clothes and purses and well, everything in sight and she was all like, no that’s enough. We didn’t do too much damage, we spent about us much as the boys did while they were at Magiquest while we were at Libby Lu. We then went to Planet Hollywood for lunch and they didn’t have any cake so she got a birthday sundae instead. We sang Happy Birthday to her there and then we surprised her with a pink pig Webkinz because that is all she asked for for her birthday. Well that this pink chair from Target that my grandma bought for her. We will be celebrating her birthday with family once we get home. We actually leave Myrtle Beach tomorrow (boo hoo!) and we plan on driving half way home and then finding a hotel to stay in Wednesday night and then finishing up the trip on Thursday. We don’t have to be home until Friday, so who knows, we may stay longer somewhere on the way home if we find something interesting to do. Here’s a very positive aspect of the trip. I have been doing laundry at night and will be arriving at home we ALL clean clothes!!!

Second stop – Myrtle Beach

Hello from Myrtle Beach!!

We left our hotel in Pigeon Forge Thursday morning right on schedule. I drove most of the way since it helps prevent me from getting motion sickness. Everything ran smoothly until we were about an hour from our hotel in Myrtle Beach. We ran into a terrible thunderstorm and had to pull over and wait about 30 minutes for the storm to pass. Once we got to our hotel we were in the lobby checking in and the power went out. Chase and Karli were screaming bloody murder for about 5 seconds while it was pitch black. Then the power went out one other time while we were in our room. Luckily that was the end of the storm and the power going out. Our hotel room at Island Vista is really nice except for our bedroom is much warmer than the room the kids sleep in. Other than that we love the pools, the beach, all of it. It’s really nice and somewhat of an upscale hotel. We ended up finally going to the grocery store yesterday and bought breakfast, lunch, and snack foods for the rest of our trip. We are spending a small fortune on eating out everyday. Like last night where we went to this place called Thoroughbreds Chopkhouse and Seafood Grill and I guess we were suppose to make a reservation, but they seated us anyways. The kids meals were $10 each and there wasn’t an adult meal on the menu under $30. The food was delicious and Chase had asked our waiter if they had any shrimp. He loves shrimp and always wants to order it where ever we go. We didn’t order any appetizer since the dinner was going to cost so much as it was, but the waiter brought Chase one jumbo shrimp cocktail and he was in his glory!

The kids are certainly enjoying their first trip to the ocean. We warned them about the salt water, but of course they each got a good swallow before learning to keep their mouths shut! We have been going back and forth between the several different pools and the ocean. I have actually had tons of relaxation and reading time. Ken plays with the kids a lot and it’s easy to relax in a lounge chair by the pool and let the kids play. Chase is Mr. Social and strikes up conversations with everyone. Everyone loves him, which is sweet, but we also have to keep a close eye on him because not everyone can be trusted of course. Karli is either mine or Ken’s little shadow so she is easy to watch. Andrew is at that age where you can give him a little freedom, but I won’t let him go in the ocean without supervision. Ken thinks it is fine to let Blake and Andrew go in the ocean as long as they stay where they can touch, but I just won’t do it. I am paranoid about stuff like that… just like Ken is paranoid about the kids standing on the balcony. It freaks him out, being 5 floors up and them standing close to the railing.

First stop – Tennessee

Our special welcome as we arrived in Tennessee…
Special Welcome

Pack Enough? We arrived at our hotel in Pigeon Forge Tennessee about 10:00pm last night. THANKFULLY the kids were not that bad the majority of the drive except for the last hour or so. Unfortunately that is the hour we needed them to be the most quiet because it was dark outside, we were driving through the mountains, and trying the follow the directions to our hotel. We had A LOT to unload from the car…can you believe all of this fit in a luggage carrier a top my Acadia and in the car, plus all 6 of us! I am sure I over packed, but that’s me. After we got everything into our room we went down to the indoor pool for a swim. We knew the kids needed to unwind and relax a little before going to bed.

Air Force Museum- Dayton, Ohio

We left at 8:30 this morning, only 30 minutes behind schedule. Not too bad considering everyone was up later than they should have been. Karli’s birthday is next week and we gave her her birthday present a little early (last night). We got her a Nintendo DS and some girly games. Anything to keep her quiet while we are in the car… She is at that stage where she talks nonstop.

We drove just under 3 hours, stopped and ate some Skyline Chilli for lunch, and now we are at the Air Force Museum in Dayton Ohio. The kids want to go in a simulator now…

Leaving for Vacation!

It’s 1:40 in the morning and we are getting up at 7am to leave for vacation for 12 days. Packing for 5 people (Ken packed for himself) was a blast…not! What a chore! I finally sat down to enter some receipts real quick and back up everything on my laptop. We will be taking our laptops with us unfortunately and fortunately. I will try to post some updates at night while we are checking emails and such. One of the downfalls of having your own business is the work never ends, at least not until you can afford to hire staff and we are not there yet.

Love this photo of Karli and Chase….Karli told me they were going to get married and then be rich! Apparently she thinks you get rich when you get married.

Future Mom of the Year

The other night I went to into Karli’s room to make sure she was covered before I went to bed and I found her like this. I thought it was so adorable. My almost 4 year old daughter sacrificing her own pillow and blanket for all her babies. Such a sweetie :p

doggy dogs

It’s not easy being green

Our dog Shaggy is not the brightest tool in the shed. He has always done crazy stuff like jumping off the diving board, laying on top of the kitchen table like a cat, and he eats his own vomit. Yea I know disgusting. Today Ken was weed wacking and Shaggy decided it would be fun to roll his face all over in the grass. Now we call him Kermit.
